Theme | Literary Term - Definition, Characteristic and Examples | Learning The Easy Way
Theme:
In literature, theme is the central or dominating idea of a literary work. Theme is the implicit message or idea in a work. It is seldom started directly. It is an abstract concept indirectly expressed through recurrent image, actions, characters and symbols. Theme and subject are not same. Actually, theme is a comment, observation, or insight about the subject.
For example, the subject of a poem may be flower but its theme may be the short- lived nature of flower.
